The charcoal and the waterlogged wood in Gibson, C. and Powell, A. Late Bronze Age burials and Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and Medieval settlement at Queen Street, Stotfold

The charcoal analysed for a middle–late Bronze Age (1150 cal. BC.) unurned cremation burial; and a medieval hearth excavated at Queen's Road both indicate access to and exploitation of a wide range of woody types for funerary and domestic use (13 taxa for the latter). Analysis of waterlogged wood for Saxo-Norman well 5433 included several pieces of a finely finished wooden bowl made of ash (Fraxinus excelsior), dated to AD890–1030.
