Secure Composite Satellite IP multicast architecture for heterogeneous groups

2007
Satellites are expected to play an essential role in bridging the "digital divide"; satellite networks are likely to be the only way to provide broadband services to regions that cannot be economically reached by terrestrial networks, in particular the more remote regions of Europe and the rest of the world. Security can be a problem for such global services. This paper presents the concept of secure composite multicast groups that can span multiple administrative domains such as satellite WiFi, WiMAX and other terrestrial domains with varying security requirements and policies. IPsec and the ETSI BSM architectural approach are used to demonstrate this solution.
