Adsorbate‐induced infrared shift in the 1/f noise of discontinuous platinum films

2008
In discontinuous platinum films, the 1/f noise temperature dependence shows a peak located at about 133 K (11.4 meV) which is attributed to a platinum 11.1 meV surface phonon. As a consequence of the surface phonon hardening effect brought about by residual adsorbates, the peak shifts to 144 K (12.3 meV). This infrared shift is confirmed by leaking hydrogen in the high vacuum system and stands for a possible new proof for the surface phonons participation in the 1/f noise generation.
