THE DÜBNA DOUBLE-ARM TIME-OF-FLIGHT SPECTROMETER FOR HEAVY-ION REACTION PRODUCTS

1987
Abstract The double-arm time-of-flight spectrometer DEMAS designed for the detection and identification of heavy-ion reaction products at incident energies below 10 McV/amu is presented. Based on the kinematic coincidence method, the relevant physical information is obtained from the measurement of the two correlated velocity vectors of the binary fragments. Construction and performance of the different detector systems applied to measure the time-of-flight values, the position coordinates and the kinetic energies of both fragments are described in detail. The description of the data acquisition and analysing procedures is followed by a discussion of some experimental examples to demonstrate the spectrometer performance. A mass resolution of typically 4–5 amu (fwhm) is routinely achieved.
