ABSENCE OF ANAMNESTIC ANTIBODY RESPONSE TO DNP–HAEMOCYANIN AND DNP–FICOLL IN RAINBOW TROUT

1985
Publisher Summary This chapter reviews two different kinds of antigen in rainbow trout: (1) DNP-haemocyanin (KLH) and (2) DNP-ficoll. The existence of immunological memory in trout is of interest both for fundamental research and also for applied research. Anderson et al . (1982), using rainbow trout, tested the anti-DNP response and postulated the existence of a memory measured by the passive haemolytic plaque assay when the DNP was grafted onto a thymus-dependent carrier, haemocyanin, and its absence when grafted onto a thymus-independent one, Ficoll. No conclusive evidence exist at present for the existence of an anamnestic response in trout. Boosters are often used in vaccination protocols for salmonids without any evidence of a beneficial effect.
