Synthesis and Characterization of Iodide-coordinated Dinuclear Molecular Single Crystal Cr2(µ-I)2I4(C8N2H4)4

2017
We synthesized single crystals of Cr2(µ-I)2I4(C8N2H4)4, in which highly symmetric planar dinuclear Cr2(µ-I)2I4 units are partially stacked, forming a one-dimensional iodide network. The nearest intermolecular I−–I− distance is ca. 4.04 A, which is shorter than the sum of the ionic radius and is close to the intramolecular ones. Each iodide network is spaced between vertically coordinated C8N2H4, building an organic/inorganic layered structure. The saturation value of magnetization (ca. 2.7 μB/Cr) indicates that the valences of Cr and I are nearly +3 and −1, respectively. The electrical conductivity was significantly enhanced when the sample was exposed to humid air.
