La bibliothèque Giustinian-Recanati-Falck

2005
The Venetian collection of the Giustinian on the Zattere was originally founded at the end of the 18 t h century; it was added to later by the family, and is now combined with that of Albert Falck. The catalogues compiledat the beginning of the 19 t h century show that its content is dominated by material relating to Venetian history and by books linked to the family itself. When the Bibliophiles came to Venice, seven manuscripts were exhibited. These dated from the late 14 t h to the 18 t h centuries, and were examples of the richness of the collection, and of the texts and document types which it contains: two Promissioni of the Doge, a Venetian Commissione, one of the original manuscripts of the Laudi Sacre of Leonardo Giustinian, also Venetian, a Florentine volume of the Fioretti of St Francis, the fine Gonzagan book on horses, and finally the stage designs of Filippo Juvarra.
