Use of Hydatid Cyst Fluid of Buffalo-Origin as Antigen in Sero Diagnosis of Hydatid Disease

1994
Abstract Binjola, S. K. and Gaur, S. N. S. 1994. Use of hydatid cyst fluid of buffalo origin as antigen in sero diagnosis of hydatid disease. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 5: 113–118 Hydatid cyst fluid (HCF) obtained from Indian buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) was processed for the preparation of antigen. It was salt precipitated using ammonium sulphate solution at 40% saturation level, dialysed and fractionated with column chromatography via column of Sephadex G-200. The first peak, which was most prominent, was found to be more sensitive and specific as compared to salt precipitated antigen. Immunodiffusion test gave 72.72% sensitivity and 71.42% specificity with this antigen in naturally infected buffaloes.
