Location of second stage pressure regulator in the feasibility of residential liquefied petroleum gas projects

2021
Abstract Centralized liquefied petroleum gas systems are very common in residential buildings for the service of fuel in kitchens, water heaters, and clothes dryers. For optimal operation of these systems, two stages of pressure regulation are installed. The first stage compensates for the pressure variations that occur in the storage containers and the second stage supplies the fuel at the pressure and flow necessary for the operation of the consumer equipment. The dimensioning of the sections and sections of the pipe that carries the fuel, from storage to consumption, depends on several factors, including the distance and the pressure drop between the initial and final points of the section of pipe; hence the location of the pressure regulator. This location can even define the economic viability of installing this type of system due to the cost associated with the pipe sections. In this work, a comparative analysis is carried out between 3 location configurations of the second-stage pressure regulator in a gas system to be installed in a set of two buildings that house a total of 68 apartments. It is concluded that the optimal second-stage regulator location configuration is the one where the regulator is installed at the entrance of each floor of the building, the closest to the consumer equipment.
