Transformer & Marchand integrated baluns of extremely small size for 60 GHz applications in 65 nm CMOS technology

In this paper we present extremely small size integrated balun topologies in 65 nm CMOS technology for millimeter wave applications. An octagon stacked version of the transformer balun and respectively, a stacked version of the Marchand balun are proposed. Both balun structures are designed for 60 GHz applications and present a wideband performance, satisfactory phase and amplitude imbalances. The baluns show maximum phase and amplitude imbalances of 4° and 0.6 dB, respectively. The maximum occupied area is approximately 0.0061 mm2.
