THE DESIGN OF MODERN TWO-STROKE ENGINES

1995
The advantages of the two stroke diesel engine are discussed. Two stroke engines are potentially more efficient than four-strokes; two-stroke marine diesels have thermal efficiencies in excess of 50%. With spark ignition, two-strokes are inherently more efficient at part load than four-strokes.
