MEASURING MEDIA LITERACY AMONG YOUTH INPAKISTAN

With the fast explosion in the media industry through advancement of refined web innovation in recent years, youngsters, adolescents, ladies, grown-ups, and seniors are exposed to the digitized media more than ever. There are few investigations raised how this digitized media impacts the day to day life of children and adolescents. In this context, it is basic to help youth and youngsters for making essential comprehension of the media. Media education, is however, yet to introduce at the school and college levels in Pakistan. To trace out the level of understanding media manipulations and media literacy among stakeholders, a survey was design to get opinion and understanding on some national issues from media literate and illiterate students of National University of Science and Technology Islamabad and media experts. Simultaneously, a substance examination of two mainstream newspapers Daily Jang and Express and two news channels Geo and ARY News was done to check the coverage pattern and getting news propensities of the respondents. Results indicate media literates comprehend the media mechanism like, pressures on media, freedom of press, media agenda, media control and manipulations, media stakes, media economy and important issues confronting the society while media illiterates went inverse to it and could not understand the overall media business.
