Myogenic Hyperuricemia in Hypoparathyroidism
1991
We previously reported that in genetic metabolic myopathies including glycogenosis types III, V and VII the defective energy generation resulted in excessive purine degradation in working muscle, to develop hyperuricemia after exercise (“myogenic hyperuricemia”) (Kono et al., 1986; Kono et al., 1987; Mineo et al., 1985; Mineo et al., 1987). Myopathic symptoms similar to those of muscle glycogenoses sometimes develop in patients with hypo-parathyroidism. The present study was aimed to disclose the development of myogenic hyperuricemia in this acquired myopathy secondary to hypoparathyroidism.
