Design and analysis of CPW-fed quasi-self-complementary pentagonal antenna for ultra-wideband systems

2014
Design and performance of a coplanar-waveguide (CPW) fed quasi-self-complementary pentagonal antenna (QSCPA) for ultra-wideband systems is presented and analyzed in this paper. The proposed antenna is designed on RO3003 dielectric material with relative permittivity of 3 and thickness of 1.52 mm. Predicted impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 2.77-11.84 GHz, for VSWR <; 2, which covers the whole ultra-wideband (3.1-10.6 GHz). The performance of the antenna for various parameters is investigated and meticulously presented. The optimal designed antenna provides a gain variation within 1 dBi and a satisfactory radiation patterns at different resonant frequencies in the operating bandwidth. The antenna is highly efficient with 87% average radiation efficiency. The proposed antenna provides a flexible environment which makes it favorable for integrating with body-centric wireless communication devices.
