Expression and clinical significance of secreted coiled protein 1 and β-catenin in lung adenocarcinoma
2017
Objective
To detect the expression and correlation of secreted coiled protein 1 (SFRP1) and β-catenin in lung adenocarcinoma.
Methods
The expression of SFRP1 and β-catenin was detected by immunohistochemistry. The relative expression of SFRP1 mRNA and β-catenin mRNA was detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR).
Results
The positive expression rate of SFRP1 protein in tumor tissue was significantly lower than in adjacent tissue (38.3% vs. 83.3%, P=0.001). The abnormal expression of β-catenin in tumor tissue and adjacent tissue was 75.0% and 3.3% respectively (P=0.001). The relative expression of SFRP1 mRNA and β-catenin mRNA in tumor tissue and adjacent tissue was 0.847±0.297 vs. 2.019±0.445 and 0.883±0.167 vs. 0.524±0.193, respectively. The expression of SFRP1 and abnormal expression of β-catenin were correlated with degree of differentiation, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis. Besides, the expression of SFRP1 was associated with abnormal expression of β-catenin (r=-0.495, P=0.001).
Conclusion
The expression of SFRP1 and abnormal expression of β-catenin may be correlated with the carcinogenesis and metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma. The accumulation of β-catenin in nuclei or cytoplasm may be due to the reduced expression of SFRP1.
