Eliciting organisational routines via reflexivity through a participatory approach

2017
During collaborative innovation projects within Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs), external knowledge plays an important role to foster innovation in current as well as future projects. External knowledge can be integrated into the project through different practices and routines. Thereby to help SMEs, it requires to find out how external knowledge is acquired, transformed and applied within the project. To this end, in this study we propose a new participatory approach called ISEACAP (Identification, Simulation, Evaluation, Amelioration of Absorptive CAPacity) in order to elicit applied knowledge in each part of the project and map knowledge journey from its creation to its application. Via the knowledge map, we then focus on the practices by which firms acquired, transformed knowledge and applied it in the project. Further, through reflexivity, important knowledge, routines and best practices can be identified and shared in organisational level to be integrated in current as well as future innovative projects.
