Competition between Kondo and RKKY interaction
1990
Abstract We report the variation of Neel's temperature obtained from specific heat, susceptibility and resistivity measurements for Ce(X l-z Y z ) 3 where X and Y can be any one of Tl, Pb, Sn or In. Ce(Pb, In) 3 and Ce(Pb, Tl) 3 display extremely interesting T N behaviour which cannot be accounted for by a Kondo necklace approach that neglects the coherence of a heavy fermion lattice and resultant itinerant antiferromagnetism. We conclude that evolution between any two different types of groundstate indicates that more than one parameter J sf is involved in determingng the nature of both itinerant and well localized moments groundstate.
