A Re-emergence of Lithuanian Migration Culture: Four Recent Emigration Waves in Lithuanian Society

Four migration periods could be highlighted during Lithuanian history. The fourth period started in 1990 and continues until now. This period is divided into four waves. The first one is related with post-independence decade; the second is associated with accession to the EU and the economic prosperity period; the third has linkage to the economic crisis and accession to the Schengen zone; and the fourth with entering the Eurozone and the consequences of the Brexit referendum. These waves and their main characteristics in relation to the socio-economic situation of the country are presented in this chapter.
