ANNIHILATION IN FLIGHT AND BREMSSTRAHLUNG OF 650-MEV POSITRONS IN PROPANE

A bubble chamber study was made of the in-flight annihilation and bremsstrahlung of positrons in propane. The annihilation cross section was determined, and the results indicated the existence of a radiation correction. Only the emission of high-energy photons was considered, that is those for which v > 0.90, with v = k/E/sub 0/, where k is the photon energy and E/sub 0/ is the energy of the primary positron. The experimental and theoretical values for the bremsstrahlung cross sections for v between 0.90 and 1.00 were tabulated. (J.S.R.)
