The allocation of safety integrity levels (SIL) for rolling stock safety related functions

Procurement specifications have not consistently specified SILs for Rolling Stock safety related functions that implement programmable electronic systems. A UK industry working group has been debating the cause and aspiring to find a possible solution to this issue. It is recognised that there is no pan-industry agreed mechanism for the allocation of SILs and consideration has been given to identify what the building blocks are to resolve this problem. This presentation reports on the progress made so far and aims to encourage wider debate. (16 pages)
