Gain tuning control strategy for DFIG-based wind farms

2017
An efficient wind power control strategy plays an important role in improving wind power stability and economy. Conventionally, wind farms use proportional integral (PI) control, which is straightforward and practical. However, the existing methods to design PI control gains is either time consuming or easily affected by the engineers' experience. Moreover, the tuned and fixed control gains may produce undesired response under a dynamically changing power system, especially the power system integrated with variable wind power. To address this issue, a gain tuning control strategy is proposed for doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind farms. It can adaptively and automatically adjust PI control gains under various operating conditions, such that keep the DC-link voltage constant and further maintain the power system stability. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
