Rheological Behavior of AZ31 Magnesium Alloy Sheet Prepared by Equal Channel Angular Rolling

2008
The plastic strain mechanism of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet was investigated by room-temperature uniaxial tensile test. After equal channel angular rolling(ECAR),the plasticity of the rolled sheet along the rolling direction was obviously better than along the transverse direction. The elongation rate increased from 17.5% to 28.6%.The conventionally processed sheet showed a distinct(0002) basal plane orientation. However, the grain orientation of the sheet processed by equal channel angular rolling evolved from(0002) basal plane to non-basal plane. After being subjected to tensile failure, the conventionally rolled sheet had a lot of twin crystals, while the sheet processed by ECAR had much reduced twin crystals.A new sliding system may be started by ECAR,while the tension twinning acted as compatible deformation mechanism.
