The Two-Track Model of Bereavement

In this chapter, authors use the Two-Track Model of Bereavement and its derivative, the Two-Track Bereavement Questionnaire, to link research and clinical practice for the clinician. To do this, they shall continue with the initial narrative material, describe the Two-Track Model of Bereavement succinctly, and link it to the questionnaire. They believe that obtaining additional material about the nature of the relationship is important when seeking to determine the impact of bereavement and intervention possibilities for a client like Anna. The Two-Track Model of Bereavement creates a scaffolding to address response to interpersonal loss from a bifocal perspective. The importance of combining the two perspectives of functioning and relationship in broad ways formed the basis for the Two-Track Model of Bereavement. The Two-Track Model of Bereavement advocates for the assessment of both functioning and the nature of the continuing attachment to the deceased when significant others die-and this is across the entire course of the bereaved person's lifetime.
