Chaotic waveform generator using a turbulent electron beam

The purpose of excitation of chaotic oscillations in microwave generators is the broadening of the frequency bandwidth of generated oscillations. Development of such generators with chaotic output is promising for future progress of noise radar technology (NRT), which is currently under development in the Laboratory for Nonlinear Dynamics of Electronic Systems (LNDES), IRE NASU. A new generation of radar based on NRT have high electromagnetic compatibility and interference immunity. The use of noise waveforms eliminates ambiguity in measurements and allows simultaneous measurement of distance and radial velocity vector with high resolution and accuracy (Lukin and Kulik, 1999; Alexandrov et al, 1999; Lukin and Mogila, 2000; Mogila et al, 2000). The promising direction for creation of broadband microwave generators under development in IRE NAS of Ukraine is a method using excitation of chaotic oscillations by electron beams with increased spatial charge and a wide scatter of longitudinal speeds (Afanas'ev et al, 1997). The longitudinal speed scatter is due to change of the transverse impulsive moment in a nonuniform magnetic field. For creation of scatter of longitudinal speeds, it is necessary to have initial scatter of cross speeds and mixing of electrons in different layers. Initial scatter of cross speeds in a three-electrode gun (Afanas'ev, 1994) is created by a system of anode lenses and can be controlled by the potential of the first anode.
