Pulse-Width-Modulation (PWM) Alternatives for the Implementation of Programmable Analog Processing Arrays (PAPAs)

2001
This paper presents some alterna- tives for the implementation of Programmable Analog Processing Arrays (PAPAs) based on Pulse-Width-Modulation (PWM) techniques. PAPAs, when used in the Focal Plane (FPPAPAs) with on-chip photosensors (one per processor) constitute a well defined class of versatile vision chips. Forecasted advantages and drawbacks of PWM alternatives are discussed in connection with the usual trends, obstacles and trade-offs of this kind of systems.
