A phorbol ester from leaves of two Jatropha species (Euphorbiaceae) (with 1 figure)

A chemical evaluation of the leaf hexane extracts of Jatropha galvani Jim. Ram. and J. stephani Jim. Ram. et Mtz. Gordillo was made. The same phorbol ester was isolated from the two species. TLC profiles were run with theextracts and their comparison showed 90% similarity. Both species belong to the Loureira section in the Deghan & Webster classification and the results obtained are in accordance with this morphological arrangement.
