ESTUDIO PRELIMINAR ACERCA DE LA INFLUENCIA DE LA SINTOMATOLOGíA DEPRESIVA EN LA CAPACIDAD ATENCIONAL DE ADOLESCENTES INTERNADOS

2015
However, according to Pennington (2009), this relationship has been rarely addressed in the scientific literature. Attention is not understood as a uniform function, but as a complex process in which, according to the model of Posner and Rothbart (2007), there are three attentional networks: Orienting ( selective/ focused attention), Alerting (sustained attention) and Executive Function (attentional control). There exist different studies (Calderon, Barrera, 2013; Goodale, E. 2007) which report on how the attentional capacity is affected in patients with depressive symptoms. This study reports on preliminary data of a sample of 11 adolescents patients, aged between 14 and 18 years, admitted to the adolescent ward of the Hospital Alvear. All of them were administered the Beck Depression Inventory in its second version (BDI II), and tests requiring attentional capacity: Digit- Symbol, Symbol Search and TMT A and B. The results obtained shown that, on average, patients present a level of severe depression and significantly disturbed attention levels. Key words Depression, Attention, Adolescents
