Bit Error Performance of MPSK Signal in Frequency-selective, Fast Rayleigh Fading Channel with Fading Compensation

1992
This paper derives the bit error rate probability for a proposed technique in which adaptive fading estimation is used in an MPSK modem to compensate for the random phase variation caused by Doppler spread in a fast Rayleigh fading mobile channel. The bit-error performance is analysed using a frequency-selective fading model with co-channel interference. The results show that the Doppler spread caused by vehicle motion does not have a dominant effect on the bit-error performance. If the MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) of fading is estimated to be negligible, then the minimum error-rate achievable will mainly be a function of co-channel interference (CCI) and fading time delay.
