Design of Wideband Filtering Magnetoelectric Dipole Antenna with a Flat Gain utilizing U-shaped Slot

2020
This paper proposes a broadband filtering magnetoelectric dipole antenna (MEDA) with a stable gain utilizing U-shaped slots. By loading the slots, a resonance is introduced to the equivalent magnetic dipole of MEDA, thereby generating a radiation null in the high-frequency band of the antenna. Due to the structural characteristics of the MEDA, the antenna has its intrinsic radiation null in the low frequency band. Utilizing these two radiation nulls, good out-of-band rejection characteristics is obtained. The antenna is simulated and optimized using simulation software. The simulation results indicate that the antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth as high as 79% for VSWR < 2, which can cover from 2.2 to 5.1 GHz. A simulated maximum boresight gain up to 9 dBi is obtained.
