EnglishIt was studied the antioxidant capacity of the lignin extracted from the black liquor. Lignin was incorporated in low density polyethylene (LDPE) and their performance as antioxidant was studied through the multiple extrusion of the material, comparing the changes in carbonyl index, melt flow index, molecular mass and property of tension, with the obtained ones in LDPE formulated with commercial additives (Irganox 1010 and Irganox 1076). The results showed that to a lignin concentration of 800 ppm this biopolymer offers an antioxidant protection to the LDPE. Their effect like antioxidant is similar in comparison with the observed one when using the studied commercial additives. It was also observed that the lignin mixed with the studied commercial additives offers an antioxidant protection adapted to process the LDPE. This is an advantageous because lignin is a byproduct of the waste in the papermaking industries and it can be exploited in the formulation of additives for this type of polymer.
