Fuel Cell Vehicles as Back-Up Power Options

2015
Gasoline or diesel-powered backup generators have typically been used to provide energy to homes during emergencies. The increase in electrification of vehicles means that vehicle and residential energy needs can now be combined, and a vehicle can potentially provide electricity to a home during a power outage. Because commercially available electric vehicles cannot provide more than a few hours of energy, this article proposes a fuel cell-powered range-extended electric vehicle that can offer energy for significantly longer than battery electric vehicles.
