Development of a high-pressure discharge for diode-pumped rare gas lasers

Recently suggested optically pumped rare gas lasers have a potential for scaling to cw high-power systems with good beam quality. Metastable atoms of heavier rare gases that are the lasing species are to be produced in an electric discharge at near atmospheric pressure. The key problem for this class of lasers is the development of a suitable discharge system.
