Wireless technology evolution and impact on the access network

1994
"A wireless revolution is set to transform the world's telecommunications industry." Key to this discontinuity are three forces; unparalleled deregulation, privatization and competition in traditionally monopolistic local access telecommunications markets, the reallocation of hundreds of MHz of spectrum, and rampant technological progress in radio-based subscriber access systems. This paper reports on the third component, wireless technology as the involving transport mechanism for providing basic telephone service, particularly in developing countries.
