Synthesis and First Principles Investigation of HMX/NMP Cocrystal Explosive

1,3,5,7-Tetranitro-l,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX)/N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) cocrystal explosive was prepared by a solution evaporation method. This cocrystal explosive crystallized in the trigonal system (space group ), with cell parameters a = 16.605(8) A and c = 31.496(4) A. Theoretical investigations of the formation mechanism of HMX/NMP cocrystal were carried out in Cambridge serial total energy package (CASTEP) based on dispersion-corrected density functional theory (DFT-D) with a plane wave scheme. The exchange-correlation potential was treated with the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof function of generalized gradient approximation, and dispersion force was correlated using Grimme's method. The band structure, density of states, projected density of states, and Mulliken populations were calculated at the generalized gradient approximation level.
