Iter Operational Domain Study with Plasma Quest Code

2003
Operational domain study for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) was done with a "Plasma Quest (PQ)" code. PQ is interactive numeric tool with graphic interface. It works in two modes: a synthesis mode, aimed to a tokamak pulse scenario optimization and operational domain studies, and an analysis mode, for simulation of plasma vertical displacement episodes (VDE) and disruption. In the synthesis mode, the main distinguishing feature of the PQ code is automatic solution fit at the given conditions and design constraints on coil currents, voltages, local fields and global forces, etc. This feature makes the PQ code efficient for operational domain studies. Practical results on ITER operational domain studies are reported.
