An Experimentally Validated Analytical Model for Aerosol Number Concentration Reduction in Classrooms

2021
ABSTRACT In this study, an analytical model was derived to represent the aerosol number concentration decay in modern classrooms. The model takes various indoor effects into consideration, including filtration efficiency of the air ventilation systems, indoor air cleaners, particle absorption on walls, and particle emission from occupants. Experimental measurements were conducted to determine the wall-loss coefficient and the particle generation rate of occupants. The results predicted by the analytical model agree with the experimental data reasonably well. The behavior of the particle concentration decay under different ventilation scenarios was investigated in the paper. The model has been incorporated into a web-based software that is freely accessible by the public.
