Image fusion using interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets

2015
The process of blending several images that are obtained from various modalities into a single composite and enhanced image is known as image fusion. In this paper, a novel way is introduced to fuse several images using interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IVIFSs). Most of the digital images have uncertainties acquired during acquisition or during transmission. We prove that IVIFSs are more suitable for fusion of such uncertain images. IVIFIs are generated initially for the two source images. Spatial and textural information of the images are extracted and blended using maximum and minimum operations in IVIFSs. Experimental results of the proposed algorithm are compared with various existing techniques. Comparison results reveal that the proposed method renders a fused image with better luminance and contrast than other existing techniques.
