Optimization criteria in network configuration for air quality monitoring: analysis of available facilities and possible development lines

Abstract Different criteria for the optimal siting of air quality monitoring stations are presented and briefly discussed. A computer program, written by the authors and based on a siting method developed at Illinois Institute of Technology, is described and some applications to the design of air quality monitoring networks in Italy are discussed.
