Methane gas detection at room temperature using Pd doped SnO 2 /reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite

2016
In the present work, we prepared Pd doped SnO 2 / reduced graphene oxide(rGO) nanocomposite by a facile hydrothermal method. The synthesized powder characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The performance of sensor was tested at various concentration of methane(CH 4 ) gas ranges from 800 ppm to 4000 ppm at room temperature. The fabricated sensor showed decrease in its electrical resistance with CH 4 concentration increase. The presence of Pd and graphene can help to increase the composite sensitivity at room temperature. It is found that Pd doped SnO 2 / rGO exhibits 2.07% sensitivity toward 4000 ppm methane concentration at room temperature. The sensor shows an average response time of 10 min.
