The invention provides an application program interface based on an XML format configuration file and a construction method of the application program interface. The application program interface comprises a menu bar component configuration module, a tool bar component configuration module, an anchoring window component configuration module, a child window component and child control component configuration module and a configuration file operation module. Basic component attributes of an application program are configured through the XML format configuration file, and configuration of the application program interface is achieved; the XML format configuration file is read, configuration parameters of all the components are analyzed, coding is conducted according to the respective rules and demands separately, and correlation configuration information of all the components of the application program interface is acquired and constructed; the same kinds of components or entries share one interface function, corresponding functions are written in the corresponding interface functions, and the functions of all the components of the application program interface are achieved. Accordingly, the repeated coding work is reduced, the working efficiency is improved, the existing functions can be shown or hidden through the existing attributes, and the common interface functions are conveniently managed and maintained.
