Study on the Synthesis of Pirimicarb

Pirimicarb was synthesized from 5,6-dimethyl-2-dimethylamino-4-hydroxy pyrimidine and dimethylcarbamyl chloride in the presence of acid-binding agent. The effects of the rate of hydrolysis of dimethylcarbamyl chloride, the solvent, the catalyst, and the ratio of raw materials were investigated. The title compound was obtained in 98% yield( based on 5,6-dimethyl-2-dimethylamino-4-hydroxy pyrimidine) with98% purity under the optimized conditions.
