DRIVER EVASIVE MANOEUVER IN ADVANCED CRUISE-ASSIST HIGHWAY SYSTEM (AHS)

1999
It is necessary to know what collision avoidance behavior the driver will take against provided information and warning, in order to design and evaluate the Advanced cruise-assist Highway System (AHS). Because the AHS was not realized in its design stage, driver evasive manoeuvers in AHS when the hazard was out of his/her field of view were collected by using a driving simulator which realized AHS virtually. The experimental results showed that 80 to 90 % of drivers started braking after information and warning service were provided and some drivers took brakes softly when he/she does not see the hazard directly and increased braking force after appearance of hazard to stop in front of it.
