There is something mesmerizing about space that has captivated humanity for generations and inspired artists, scientists, and engineers alike. However, it was not until the late 1950s that humans were able to design and build a rocket capable of breaking through the force of gravity to reach space. Early on, most space activities were carried out by the governments from a few nations; in recent years, we have seen many commercial and educational initiatives that are making space more accessible to everyone. This issue of IEEE Potentials is dedicated to topics of space exploration, highlighting projects and ideas fueling the current and future generations of explorers.
