EFFICIENT ULTRA WIDE BAND GROUND PENETRATING RADAR ELECTROMAGNETICAL MODELLING USING ASYMPTOTICAL APPROXIMATIONS

This paper presents a method for modelling GPR signals coming from the back-scattering of objects like mines that are shallow buried in the soil. First we present how we can approximate a solution of the scattering problem using rays of the asymptotic theory of diffraction. For the case of simple objects, we compared the results with those obtained by a more precise computation made by the FDTD method. Finally we show the result of the simulation of a 2D GPR image of a simulated buried mine, image computed very rapidly.
