Review on active power control researches of a grid-connected wind farm

With the growing size of a wind farm and the development of wind power technologies, realizing the controlable operation of a large wind farm will be a future trend for a grid-connected wind power system. The key tecnology of the controlable operation for wind farms is active power control. Active power control strategies for wind farms based on the active power control methods for wind turbine generators were summaried. The findings about active power vs. frequency according to the frequency response characteristics of wind farms were analyzied. Applications of the active power control to improve the grid-connected capacity of wind farms and the damping properties of the grid were discussed.
