Over Frequency Problem Mitigation Using Grasshopper Based PID Auxiliary Governors

2019
This paper presents the Grasshopper optimization Algorithm (GOA) method as an instrument for fine-tuning a PID prime mover auxiliary governor to improve the transient frequency response of unintentional formed islands with excess generation. The results obtained are compared to the classical PID design (Ziegler-Nicholas). The study considers different levels of interrupted power starting from 10 % to 90% of the studied island generation power. The case study considers a two-area four-machine system. Results are presented in the form of time domain simulation via MATLAB/SIMULINK.
