Effects of annealing temperature on microstructure and hardness of (Cu60Zr30Ti10)98Y2 bulk metallic glass

2010
Abstract (Cu 60 Zr 30 Ti 10 ) 98 Y 2 bulk metallic glass (Φ4 mmd×70 mm) was obtained successfully by copper mould cooling and spraying- casting, and some samples were isothermally annealed at temperatures of 473 and 623 K, which was lower than the glass transition temperature ( T g ) for 1 h. Microstructure and properties of as-cast and annealed samples were studied. Crystallization phases (Cu 10 Zr 7 and CuZr) were observed in annealed samples, and the species and fraction of these phases increased with increasing annealing temperature. Microhardness of fully amorphous sample was lower than the partial crystalline phases in the glassy matrix, and increased with increase of annealing temperature.
