Reply to ‘‘Comment on ‘Thermocouple Temperature measurements in shock‐compressed solids’ ’’

We present several arguments and experimental support for a different interpretation of the dynamic response of embedded thermocouples. These were interpreted recently as temperature histories, whereas we suggest that longitudinal strain is responsible for much of the output emf of these gauges.
