Publishing in Special Education and Literacy Journals

2018
The field of school psychology is interdisciplinary in nature, and this diversity is reflected in the scholarly works we produce. The majority of journal articles from 2005–2009 generated by faculty from school psychology programs accredited by the American Psychological Association were published across a wide range of social and behavioral sciences journals rather than in major school psychology outlets. This chapter reviews special education and literacy journals, with the goal of providing information to guide scholars in the field of school psychology in the selection of publication outlets in these areas. School psychologists routinely work with students who are either currently receiving, or who could be eligible for, special education services, along with their parents, teachers, and school administrators, to promote a positive learning environment. Therefore, it is likely that school psychologists might have a particularly keen interest in publishing in special education and literacy journals.
