An Improved PSO-GA based Fuzzy Controller of STATCOM for Cascaded Induction Motors of Drilling System

Drilling systems are among the most important and sensitive industrial systems, which consist of cascaded induction motors, induction motors, and transformers. These systems create large voltage drops during starting. In this paper, a STATCOM is utilized to compensate the reactive power. A fuzzy controller is used to improve the performance of induction motors. The inputs of the proposed controller are "the response error" and "error change rate" and the outputs are PI controller coefficients. Changing the range of fuzzy membership functions and fuzzy rules are optimized by the PSO-GA. The impact of this controller is shown in different scenarios in terms of reduction of startup time, reactive power consumption reduction, and compensation of voltage drop.
